A Blogging Break

I've done this before: Said, "Hey I'm taking a break!" and then I immediately write fifty posts in three days. I think that happens sometimes; you give yourself permission to stop and then by doing so you relieve the pressure to perform. It's a bit like sex, but even then, 50 times in 3 days is a little much even for me.

But I am aware that I am a little burned out on the blogging front. Burned out because, I put a lot of pressure on myself to write really well, and most of the time I think I do write well -- but these past few weeks I think many of my posts have been on auto-pilot, a feeling backed up by the lack of interaction from you guys.

It may be a one week break, it may be a month. It may only be four hours. But I'm officially letting myself off the hook and we'll see what happens. It's also the case that I have more work going on than possibly at any point since I started this blog. I've been getting home late after a day of writing or meeting about writing or getting notes about my writing; and I feel obliged to blog --- but the juice isn't there. So now is perhaps not the time to be blogging.

It's time to move on, it's time to get going,
What lies ahead I have no way of knowing.

But under my feet baby, grass is growing,
It's time to move on, time to get going.

Care to share?

  1. Everyone deserves a break, especially if you are busy. I wouldn't take the lack of interaction as lack of interest. I look forward to your posts.

  3. Please come back soon! So many of my favorite bloggers have disappeared. I'm always afraid they've died when I haven't heard from them for some time. Of course, you're letting us know that you'll be taking a break, so it's not the same thing, but just...come back.

  6. You know, I know next to nothing about films, yet I keep coming back here... and now I read this.
It surprises me just how sad I am at the suggestion of a long break from you and your writing. But everyone does need a break sometimes and I do hope you enjoy yours and come back feeling refreshed.

I look forward to your return to my reading list, whenever that may be...

  8. I think there's a time and place to be hard on yourself and a time and place to let yourself off the hook as an artist. And when you're feeling burned out... it's time to take a break.

I hope all is well and stay safe, sane, happy, and healthy :)

  9. I've never publicly commented on anyone's blog before, and I've only recently discovered yours. You just need to know that your writing (both content and style) is exceptional, and your prodigious posts have me scratching my head as to how it's done. All of the posts, even the ones written on so-called auto-pilot, display greater quality than all but a very small handful of blogs that I've encountered. Of course it's not up to us readers to bless or curse your decision, but you should understand that prompting me to step out of the shadows is no easy feat, and that I'm sure your many friends are wishing for a sooner rather than later return. www.thunderstrokes.com

  12. I have to agree! When I think "I NEED to write blog today" it's like all creativity is wiped from my brain. When I'm trying to work on something ELSE, the urge to blog up a post is all but over-powering. Funny how that works.

  14. Everyone needs a break now and then. I've just had a month off from my blog because I felt kinda lacklustre on the inspiration front. I hope you come back refreshed and raring to go! :)

  15. Kid- Absolutely nothing wrong with letting yourself off the hook. Only you know when it's time to get going... Sabbaticals are an excellent way to renew the spirit and spark creativity. Enjoy what lies ahead. We'll be here when you return. ;)
