Task 1: Shut the fuck up for once.
Task 2: Sit down.
Task 3: Watch Jimmy Stewart films. Watch his acting. Watch it closely. Do it again and again and again and again.

At the end of September you'll be fully graduated. And you'll be amazing.
I don't really care how much the latest superhero film took at the box office, although I'd probably know if you asked me. When I watch a film the main thing I am looking for is a good story. I like it when I look up at the big screen and can see a part of me staring back at me. More than anything, I am still looking for Jimmy Stewart and Jack Lemmon and Billy Wilder in every film I see.
One thing I've noticed when watching actors give interviews. There's a very strong correlation between actors that suck and actors that claim they don't listen to critics. I often wonder why that is.... *rolls eyes*
ReplyDeleteYesterday I was watching the Best of Johnny Carson DVD and there was an episode where Jimmy Stewart was on and he read a poem he wrote about his dog who died. By the end Jimmy, Johnny, and I all had tears in our eyes.
ReplyDeleteIn between my 1st and 2nd years of Graduate School getting my MFA in Acting, I resolved to watch ALL of the classic films I had missed and let me tell you when I came back for my 2nd year, I was a much better actor just from having watched those films after I had learned what I learned in my first year. You are so right Kid--you gotta watch the greats--essential part of education as an actor.
